The Tennessee Volunteers will face the Georgia Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA on October 1, 2016.
No. 11 Tennessee opened as a 2.5 point favorite vs. No. 25 Georgia.
This point spread comes as no surprise as Tennessee was able to beat Florida in Week 4, 38-28. Meanwhile, Georgia got hammered at Ole Miss by a score of 45-14.
Tennessee’s win over the Gators was their first since 2004. They’ve started the year 4-0 for the first time since 2003. The 2016 season has already had a number of rocky (pardon the pun) bumps in it for the Vols, but they have made it through undefeated.

Georgia is in a semi-rebuilt under first year head coach Kirby Smart and true freshman quarterback Jacob Eason. The future looks bright for the Bulldogs but they haven’t looked to good over the last three weeks. They nearly lost to FCS team Nicholls, then at Missouri before the pummeling in Oxford.
In this game last year, UGA running back Nick Chubb tore his ACL. He’s returned, but like his team he was really good in Week 1 but just average since.
Tennessee is in the midst of a really tough stretch of games that will define their season. Starting with the Florida game which they’ve already won, they have this game against Georgia followed by a road trip to Texas A&M and then back home against the defending national champions, Alabama. After that it gets a lot easier with South Carolina, Vandy, Missouri and Kentucky down the stretch.
If UT can win this game it will be hard to dethrone them for the SEC East title with wins over Florida and Georgia. If UGA wins it could be a race to the finish in the East and heighten the stakes for the world’s largest outdoor cocktail party.
This should be a fun game to watch – you can catch it on CBS at 3:30 Eastern / 2:30 Central.
