What could be better than a full slate of college football games on a holiday weekend?

Tennessee was almost upset by Appalachian State on Thursday night, but they pulled it out 20-13 in overtime. South Carolina came back from a 10-0 deficit to Vanderbilt and pulled out a win. Those were nice appetizers to a big weekend…

There are a number of non-SEC games on Friday night. The biggest game, I guess you could say, would be Kansas State at No. 8 Stanford.

Then comes the main course on Saturday. The great thing about a holiday weekend is you can delay your honey-do list to Monday and dedicate all Saturday to football. Of course, if you’re headed to Starkville for the game you were planning to do that anyway. So let’s dive in to the best games:

(all times Central)

6:30 AM – Georgia Tech is playing Boston College in Ireland. It’s on ESPN2 so you can start watching college football as soon as you wake up.

If you’re into College Game Day go for it, and then…

11:00 AM – Mississippi State vs. South Alabama on SEC Network; it’s going to be a hot one. For most of us that means we’re either going to pass on the game or head back to the tailgate early for some relief…assuming a big Bulldog win.

If you’re at home, that means you can flip the channels to two games: Missouri at West Virginia on FS1 and No. 3 Oklahoma at No. 15 Houston.

2:30 PM – No. 16 UCLA at Texas A&M on CBS; this has the potential to be a great game.

No. 5 LSU vs. Wisconsin at Lambeau Field on ABC. This won’t be the “frozen tundra” since it’s September 3rd, but it’s an interesting game location. These two played in Texas a couple of years ago – LSU had a big comback to win.

3:00 PM – On the chance that both of these games are on commercial at the same time, Arkansas is playing Louisiana Tech on SEC Network starting at 3:00.

4:30 PM – No. 18 Georgia vs. No. 22 North Carolina at the Georgia Dome on ESPN. It’ll be hard to make the start of this game a priority but once the 2:30 games are coming to a close this one should be coming out of halftime.

6:30 PM – if you just want to see what UMass has since we’re playing them in Week 4, now’s your chance as they play Florida on SEC Network.

Kentucky and Southern Miss are also playing on ESPNU.

7:00 PM – No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 1 Southern Cal at Jerry’s World and on ABC. This should be a pretty good one, but it’s hard to believe Bama will be in any trouble in these kickoff games until it happens.

8:00 PM – #2 Clemson at Auburn on ESPN. Auburn is Clemson without a lake so it’s natural for them to continue the series.

9:30 PM – BYU plays Arizona late on FS1, if you want to check out the Cougars.

After the long day of what should be a some great football – or, at the very least, if was football. We’re on to Sunday:.

6:30 PM – No. 10 Notre Dame plays Texas on ABC. Might be interesting.

Labor Day:

7:00 PM – No. 11 Ole Miss vs. No. 4 Florida State on ESPN. Who knows how this one will turn out but it’ll be fun to root against the Rebs on Monday night.
