1. Ole Miss – all four players are back with Cody Prewitt, Trae Elston, Derrick Jones and Senquez Golston. If you include Tony Conner in that mix it makes it an even more daunting group. The Rebs are looking to have one of the best defenses in the SEC this year, and this is the main reason why.

2. Florida – Vernon Hargreaves is the best CB in the SEC; being able to lock down on side of the field is a big time component to a great secondary. They have speed and talent as always.

3. LSU – three starters back on an LSU secondary? Makes me nervous just thinking about it.

4. Alabama – the Tide gave up the highest YPG through the air since 2008 last year.  As the secondary coach you know Saban been wearing them out.

5. Mississippi State – the Dawgs have found hidden gems in Taveze Calhoun, Jamerson Love and Kendrick Market. Jay Hughes will be back from injury and Justin Cox moves over to safety. State will be solid.

6. Auburn – Jonathon Mincy and Jermain Whitehead return that wasn’t that great statistically. But of the past four years, their worst years as a secondary were 2010 and 2013.

7. South Carolina – two starters return. This is a decent group highlighted by Brison Williams at safety.

8. Tennessee – the Vols pass defense showed dramatic improvement from 2012 to 2013. If they can show the same this year they’ll be a lot higher, and with all four starters returning they might. The question will be can they get any help from the rest of their D.

9. Arkansas – the Hogs will have experience on their side with four guys back. 235 YPG last year wasn’t bad, they should improve.

10. Missouri – only one returning starter in Braylon Webb but he’s pretty good. There are some question marks here.

11. Georgia – the Bulldogs secondary was pretty bad last year, but they have a new D.C. who will also act as their secondary coach. Pruitt should improve this group, and if they can at least be serviceable this could be a special defense.

12. Kentucky – all four guys are back from a mediocre secondary last year.

13. Texas A&M – three of four starters return, but can they stop anyone. 253 YPG given up in 2013.

14. Vanderbilt – the only school in the SEC to lose their entire secondary.
