Each week of the 2018 football season, you can check back here for your weekly update to the SEC Power Rankings.
Two weeks are in the books. Once again, there weren’t too many surprises in the SEC, so there won’t be too much shifting in the SEC Power Rankings.
But there were some results that will play a big impact on the SEC races, and as such, there are some minor changes in this week’s SEC Power Rankings.
So without further adieu, here are the SEC Power Rankings for Week 3.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0, Last Week: #1)
The Crimson Tide made quick work of Arkansas State. If it was possible for an Alabama team to truly stand out as possibly the best of the bunch from the Nick Saban era, this team might be it if it can continue to play at this high of a level.
2. Georgia Bulldogs (2-0, Last Week: #4)
I’m moving Georgia back up to the number 2 spot. They dominated the team most thought had the best to compete against Georgia for the SEC East. In the process, they showed the last few years of elite level recruiting will keep them in the hunt for a playoff berth regardless of how much they lose from year to year.
3. Auburn Tigers (2-0, Last Week: #2)
Auburn didn’t have much of a struggle this week against a bad opponent, but they move down because Georgia moved up.
4. LSU Tigers (2-0, Last Week: #3)
LSU also made quick work of an overmatched opponent, but they also have to drop because Georgia went up.
5. Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-0, Last Week: #5)
I was tempted to move Mississippi State up a spot, but I’m not convinced Kansas State is a good enough opponent to have the Bulldogs leap frog another team.
6. Texas A&M Aggies (1-1, Last Week: #8)
I know a lot of people are now convinced the Aggies are going to be a tough out because they played so well against Clemson. I’m less convinced. They played great against Alabama last year and they were the same team that we all knew they were. But it was still reason for hope, so I’m moving them up despite the fact they lost.
7. Ole Miss Rebels (2-0, Last Week: #7)
The offense is impressive. The defense is not. What happens when they play a defense that can at least slow their offense down? I think they lose and probably lose badly. Their defense is going to struggle to stop every SEC team they play this year.

8. Kentucky Wildcats (2-0, Last Week: #11)
Congratulations to the Wildcats for beating Florida for the first time in 31 years. They move closer to the top half of the SEC Power Rankings as a result.
9. Missouri Tigers (2-0, Last Week: #10)
If Missouri can continue to do what they have against better competition, they’ll move up in the power rankings in a hurry.
10. Vanderbilt Commodores (2-0, Last Week: #12)
The same thing I said about Missouri can be said about the Commodores.
11. South Carolina Gamecocks (1-1, Last Week: #6)
I don’t know that South Carolina is worse than a bunch of the teams in front of them, but they certainly played like they were against Georgia. It was a bad performance against a team most thought would at least have a chance to compete against.
12. Florida Gators (1-1, Last Week: #9)
Feleipe Franks looked great in Week 1. He looked awful in Week 2. Dan Mullen mad the first few years at Mississippi State work without a solid quarterback because he had incredible running backs to go mask some of the deficiencies at quarterback. I don’t know if he’ll have that at Florida.
13. Tennessee Volunteers (1-1, Last Week: #14)
I’ll move the Vols up for now. Not sure if it will stick, but they do get to go up for at least a week.
14. Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1, Last Week: #13)
Arkansas gets the distinction of being last this week. They blew a pretty sizable lead to a Group of 5 opponent. Yes, it was on the road, but there’s still no excuse for that.
That wraps up the third edition of the SEC Power Rankings. Check back next week to see how much change there is after the first set of games.
