The Mississippi State baseball team is looking for a solid win against LSU today

Mississippi State baseball and LSU are set to face each other in Hoover, Alabama. The Bulldogs and Tigers played each other early on in Southeastern Conference play, but both teams have come a long way since that series.

LSU took that series with ease, blowing the Bulldogs out in game one and then shutting the Bulldogs down in game three. But, the Tigers haven’t had a typically dominant year like the ones that they are used to experiencing. Right now, LSU is coming off of a series loss to the Auburn Tigers after two dominant performances from Auburn.

Mississippi State is also having a down year, but mostly for reasons that are outside those that the Bulldogs can control. However, the Mississippi State baseball team has bounced back over the season and has improved as things wore on this year. MSU is fresh off of a sweep of the top ranked Florida Gators. Beyond that, Mississippi State is 9-1 against teams ranked in the top 10 this year.

The Mississippi State baseball team isn’t really in need of a win from the perspective of getting into the NCAA Tournament. After the Bulldogs bounced over the Florida Gators with ease, Mississippi State’s RPI surged. Given that MSU has played dominantly against top 10 teams this season, the Bulldogs have a resume that could certainly get them into the NCAA Tournament.

But, a win over LSU would carry the Mississippi State baseball team’s momentum forward into the postseason, helping the Bulldogs go into the NCAA Tournament with another win. The problem comes up in how things get a little crazy in the SEC Tournament. Mississippi State can’t afford to use up its pitching staff before any possible NCAA Regional.
