Mississippi State news May 17th, 2017: What is going on in the world of Mississippi State news and athletics? Dive in to find out!

The staff at Maroon and White Nation will begin to find Mississippi State-related content from all over the web for Bulldogs fans to read and enjoy. This will be done every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with credit to each site and author. This is a convenient way for Mississippi State fans to read anything and everything they are interested in.

Here are some excellent stories and articles for you to enjoy on this fabulous Wednesday:

Upon the final regular season series of the ordinary Dudy Noble Field, HailState.com’s Bob Carskadon does an excellent and deep dive into the stories and unforgettable memories that Mississippi State fans have made over the years at the Dude. It is definitely worth your time to read every word of Bob’s amazing work.

"When Mississippi State opened its new baseball stadium in 1967, everything was perfect for those regularly in attendance, save one issue: the smelly farmer. A local farmer, who was also a big baseball fan, would come straight to the games after putting in a day’s work and join his friends to watch the Bulldogs in their fancy new stadium. The trouble was that the farmer smelled like, well, a farm."

Last night, the Diamond Dawgs completed their 22nd comeback win of the season. Andy Cannizaro’s lineup adjustments created an offensive spark that pushed the Bulldogs over Troy in an important Tuesday night game.

"Cannizaro’s adjustments at the plate seems to have given the offense a fresh breath — scoring ten runs in a come-from-behind victory. With Gridley leading off, Rooker moved up to second, and Mangum batting right after, Mississippi State will force the opponent to pick their poison when pitching to the Bulldogs."

Mississippi State has struggled with special teams for, what seems, forever. Clarion-Ledger’s Will Sammon asks the question if incoming signee Tucker Day can solve Mississippi State’s kicking woes.

"Day is set to enroll at Mississippi State in a few weeks. When Day signed with the Bulldogs in February, Dan Mullen said the Army All-American punter will have the opportunity to also be the team’s kicker."

Yesterday, Mississippi State’s Matt Roberts was honored with Southern Region Coach of the Year honors by ITA. Roberts led Mississippi State men’s tennis to a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament this season.

"Roberts became the first MSU head coach to win the award since 2013, joining Sylvain Guichard (2005) and Per Nilsson (2011, 2013) as the program’s only recipients."

LSU travels to Starkville this weekend in a big time, crucial SEC series that will huge implications in the SEC title race. Christopher Dabe of Nola.com reports on the Tigers’ mindset heading into this weekend against the Bulldogs.

"LSU (36-17, 18-9 SEC) won eight of the last nine SEC games to vault into first place in the SEC West. The Tigers hold a one-game lead on Mississippi State (34-19, 17-10). LSU must win two out of three to earn an outright share of the division title and a top-two seed for the SEC Tournament."

To wrap things up, Mississippi State’s baseball team was in the conversation for a National Seed heading into last weekend, but the Bulldogs have some winning to do just to host. D1 Baseball has Mississippi State staying in the state of Mississippi — but in Hattiesburg’s region with Southern Miss as the top seed.
