Dak Prescott made a costly decision both professionally and personally when he allegedly elected to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.

Unless you’re the type of Mississippi State fan who prefers to live under a rock, you are aware of the report by Sarah Fowler and Mike Bonner of the Clarion Ledger that Dak Prescott was arrested for a DUI charge on Saturday. Driving under the influence of alcohol is always a terrible idea, but it is an even worse idea when you’re trying to convince NFL teams to give you a contract and make you a wealthy person.

Dak Prescott had been golden ever since his career as a Mississippi State football player ended with a win over N.C. State in the Belk Bowl. He looked great in the Senior Bowl and the practices leading up to the game. Dak Prescott impressed every team he met with as the NFL Combine was taking place.

So to see the headlines of Dak Prescott choosing to get behind the wheel after having too much to drink is disheartening. All he had to do was keep making good decisions, but he chose a really bad time to do so.

Many had believed Prescott had done enough to convince a few teams to consider using a second or third round selection on the best quarterback to ever play at Mississippi State. But this decision is going to make some teams pause before pulling that trigger.

As bad as this is, and it is a terrible thing for Dak Prescott to do, it is a mistake that thankfully no one was injured from. By getting behind the wheel of the car after having too much to drink, Dak put the lives of others in danger. He should be thankful no one was hurt.

Dak Prescott has made a mistake just like every other person. If there is one thing he has shown, he’ll handle this the right way. Prescott needs to show contrition and show this is an isolated incident and not something NFL teams are going to have to worry about from a player who plays the most important position on the field.

There hasn’t really been anything in the course of the career of Dak Prescott for anyone who didn’t like him or the Mississippi State football team to use against him or the program. As well as he has handled himself up until this point, expect this to be a one time thing for him.

Let’s just hope this one time thing doesn’t hurt his career too much as a result.
