The Mississippi State football team had no issue defeating the Ole Miss Rebels to bring home the Golden Egg. MSU throttled Ole Miss from the get go and claimed victory from a wild game.

It’s safe to say that the 2018 Egg Bowl went pretty well for the Mississippi State football team. The Bulldogs hiked on up to Oxford, Mississippi and are bringing the Golden Egg back down to Starkville. MSU throttled Ole Miss and won the intense rivalry game by a score of 35-3.

This game was even more heated than most Egg Bowls tend to be. It was a perfect microcosm of what the stereotypical Egg Bowl happens to be. A benches clearing brawl went down, players were ejected from both teams. Before the Egg Bowl even began, Ole Miss students reportedly threw their drinks at Mississippi State football players.

This game was wild.

On the field, this thing was pretty one-sided. Mississippi State struck first and never trailed. Kylin Hill was the first Bulldog to find the end zone in Oxford, putting MSU up 7-0 with a 6 yard run in the first quarter.

Nick Fitzgerald then added another rushing touchdown to extend Mississippi State’s lead to 14-0. Ole Miss attempted to get back into things with a 32 yard field goal, cutting MSU’s advantage to 14-3, but a touchdown pass from Deddrick Thomas would stretch that lead back out to 21-3.

And then, in the third quarter, things really got weird. Fitz added another rushing score, moving things completely out of reach with a score of 28-3. But then, at the end of the quarter, it looked like Ole Miss would make it into the end zone. A brawl ensued, players were kicked out, and then that touchdown was taken away. The third quarter had expired and Ole Miss never got a touchdown.

Aeris Williams then added a touchdown of his own, putting the score at 35-3.

The Mississippi State football team is now 8-4 in Joe Moorhead’s first year. The Bulldogs ended things well and will now carry some momentum heading towards a bowl game. If MSU can get a win there, then there’ll be plenty of momentum going into the offseason.
