The Mississippi State football team and the Ole Miss Rebels had a bit of an altercation in the 2018 Egg Bowl. Benches cleared and players were subsequently ejected.

Towards the end of the third quarter of the Egg Bowl, as the clock was expiring, the Ole Miss Rebels had a play that seemed to be a touchdown. Ole Miss backup quarterback Matt Corral heaved a pass to A.J. Brown and it ended up in the end zone. The Mississippi State football team’s lead was apparently cut to 28-9 with an extra point on the way.

But that extra point never came and things got really hairy and heated. As soon as Brown crossed over into the end zone, he was on the ground tangled up with members of MSU’s secondary as the players fought for the ball.

Words were exchanged and those words were quickly replaced by actions. Helmets got ripped off and players from the Mississippi State football team traded punches with several Ole Miss Rebels.

The whole thing became pretty crazy pretty quickly:

With the craziness going on, both teams were given unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. That’s right, the entire roster for both the Mississippi State football team and the Rebels were hit up with the penalty. Every single player in this game was penalized for the brawl.

And a ton of players were ejected. Most of them were from Mississippi State, with three Bulldogs getting booted from the game. Jamal Peters, Cameron Dantzler, and Willie Gay were all gone after the Egg Bowl shenanigans. Gay was ejected because of a penalty from earlier in the game.

What’s weird about all of this is that Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral avoided getting ejected even though he was clearly and obviously seen tangled up with Jamal Peters.

What’s great about all of this is that the touchdown was taken away from Ole Miss as the clock had expired and the third quarter was over. The drive from Ole Miss ended up going nowhere in the fourth quarter. Mississippi State currently leads the 2018 Egg Bowl 35-3.
