Two Mississippi State basketball players named to Coaches Preseason All-SEC Teams

The Mississippi State basketball team had two members of its men’s team named to the coaches preseason All-SEC teams.

The Mississippi State basketball teams get ready to start play this week with the women’s team getting their season kicked off tonight. But before the men’s team takes the court, the SEC announced the coaches selections for their Preseason All-SEC teams.

There were two Mississippi State basketball players to make it on the Men’s All-SEC team for the coaches. Both of those players are seniors on this year’s Bulldog team.

Mississippi State Basketball guard and forward Quinndary Weatherspoon was named to the first team of the Preseason All-SEC team. Weatherspoon led the Bulldogs in scoring last season with 14.4 points per game. He also was second on the team in assists with 123 and third on the team in rebounding, averaging 6 boards a game.

Here are the other seven players who were selected to the All-SEC first team.

  • Daniel Gafford – Arkansas
  • Reid Travis – Kentucky
  • PJ Washington – Kentucky
  • Tremont Waters – LSU
  • Chris Silva – South Carolina
  • Admiral Schofield – Tennessee
  • Grant Williams – Tennessee

On the Second Team All-SEC, the Mississippi State basketball team had one representative make the cut. Quinndary Weatherspoon’s fellow senior Aric Holman was selected as a Second Team selection.

Holman was second on the Mississippi State basketball team in scoring last year with 10.9 points per game. He was the team’s leading rebounder with 6.7 per game, and Holman was second on the team in blocked shots with 66. And he led the team in three point shooting, connecting on 44% of his attempts.

  • Jared Harper – Auburn
  • KeVaughn Allen – Florida
  • Jalen Hudson – Florida

  • Darius Garland – Vanderbilt

It should be a good year for the Mississippi State basketball teams. The men are expected to rebound, and if they do so, Quinndary Weatherspoon and Aric Holman will be a big reason why.
