It’s the eighth Mississippi State football game day of the season and the Bulldogs could really use a win over the Texas A&M Aggies tonight.

We’ve officially made it two-thirds of the way through the Mississippi State football season. While most fans of the Bulldogs expected Joe Moorhead to have this team at 6-1, or maybe even 5-2, at this point, State has fallen short of both of those marks.

This season, given its incredibly high potential before it began, has become a failure as the Bulldogs keep stumbling their way through games.

On defense, everything is great. There are no complaints to be had about the defense. Every Mississippi State football fan can see that this year’s defense is one of the best that the school has ever had. The offense, on the other hand, is wasting everything that the defense has worked to do so far.

Now, the Bulldogs need a miracle against Texas A&M.

This is not how the first year of the Joe Moorhead era was supposed to go. This isn’t what Nick Fitzgerald’s final season in Starkville was expected to be. And yet, despite expectations, this is what it is.

MSU needs two more wins to lock up bowl eligibility. State needs four more wins to make sure that this season doesn’t set the Mississippi State football program backwards.

MSU only has five more games this season, including the game tonight against A&M.

If Moorhead could guide this team to win four out of its final five games, this season would be salvaged to an extent.

This was supposed to be a year in which the Bulldogs competed for the SEC West, but an 8-4 record would be alright. That just means that the Mississippi State football team needs to beat A&M, LA Tech, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.

Next. MSU should consider switching quarterbacks.. dark

Who knows if the Bulldogs could really pull that off. Ending the season with that kind of momentum would be a great thing going into next year, but it would require a miraculous turnaround for that to really happen.
