Joe Moorhead didn’t necessarily step into this year having to prove himself. The new head coach of the Mississippi State football team was being brought in to continue building the program that Dan Mullen turned into a consistent winner and this was supposed to be a year that the Bulldogs should be competing for the SEC West.
Moorhead had everything he needed to succeed and didn’t need to win to prove anything to anyone. However, after what has been an underwhelming start to the season, the head coach of the Bulldogs now needs to win as many big games as possible to fully win back MSU’s fanbase.
Losing to Kentucky and Florida cost Moorhead some goodwill from the Bulldogs’ fans. Beating Auburn helped ease things a bit, but that wasn’t enough.
On the other sideline, Ed Orgeron is doing everything he can to turn the LSU Tigers inso a national powerhouse again. Plenty of people doubted how far Orgeron could carry this program, but he has proven everybody wrong so far. If LSU can keep winning at a high level, then Orgeron will have completely endeared himself to the LSU fanbase.
Both of these coaches are trying to prove that they can win at a high level and be a challenger in the SEC West.
