Can the Bulldogs’ receivers reliably catch passes from Fitzgerald this weekend?

More from Maroon and White Nation

Joe Moorhead will want his team to make plenty of big plays this weekend. If the Mississippi State football team is going to do that, the Bulldogs will need to keep the LSU Tigers’ defense off balance and catch them off guard.

It isn’t realistic to expect the Bulldogs’ passing attack to become remarkably better overnight. That’s just not possible for this team this year. There’s a chance that it did improve over the bye week, but it probably won’t be significantly better.

However, it isn’t unrealistic to expect MSU’s receivers to step up and make plays that are normally routine for the position. It isn’t unrealistic to ask that the receivers can come into this game and make a couple of big plays here or there. That’s not too much to ask of this team.

If the Bulldogs are going to catch the Tigers off guard, then MSU must be able to make some of the plays that they’ve been close to making in the first six games of the season.

I’m not expecting radical improvements in MSU’s passing attack. I don’t think Fitzgerald will become a phenomenal thrower after a bye week. However, if the ball is close to a receiver and the receiver can get his hands on it, it’d be great if that could become a catch more often than not.
