SEC Football: Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies are set to face Will Muschamp and the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia this weekend.
Texas A&M has already played one team from the state of South Carolina this season as they hosted and came close to defeating the Clemson Tigers. Now, this weekend, the Aggies will face an SEC football team from the same state, the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks haven’t exactly been as good as some expected while the Aggies have been better than some, including myself, thought they would be during year one of the Jimbo Fisher era. Currently, South Carolina is sitting at 3-2 this season and is 2-2 in SEC play. Texas A&M, on the other hand, is one win better at 4-2 and is 2-1 against conference opponents.
Last weekend, the Gamecocks survived the Mizzou Tigers by beating them in a weird, rain-soaked game. A&M was able to survive and surprise the Kentucky Wildcats by defeating them in overtime in Kyle Field.

Why does this matter for Mississippi State football fans?
This game could have a notable impact on the Mississippi State football team’s quest to be the second best team in the SEC West this season. There’s a great chance that the Bulldogs can end up as the second best team in this division if MSU can continue to win.
One of two teams that currently stands in State’s way happens to be the Texas A&M Aggies. Right now, the Aggies are one conference win better than the Bulldogs. This weekend, MSU’s record isn’t going to change at all. However, A&M could either improve upon that lead or drop a game and make things interesting.
Mississippi State’s next opponent is LSU, who also happens to be ahead of the Bulldogs in SEC football standings. After that, the Bulldogs will play the Texas A&M Aggies. That game could get rather interesting. Especially since A&M has a bye week after their game against South Carolina.
