SEC football: Gus Malzahn and the No. 21 Auburn Tigers searching for answers at home against the Tennessee Volunteers.
The 2018 Auburn football season has taken a bit of a hit in the past couple of weeks. The Tigers were hoping to compete for the SEC West. Instead, Auburn is sitting back with a 4-2 record overall and a 1-2 record in conference after dropping a couple of SEC football games. Even worse for Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers, both of those losses have come to teams in the SEC West.
Last weekend, when the Mississippi State Bulldogs welcomed Auburn to town, Nick Fitzgerald, Kylin Hill, and Aeris Williams steamrolled right over them. For those of use that enjoy watching Mississippi State football, it was great to watch. For the Auburn Tigers, it essentially meant waving goodbye to those hopes of competing against Alabama for the division.
Now, the Tennessee Volunteers and their first year head coach are visiting the Tigers. The Vols are on a two game losing streak, but they have to be hopeful of their chances to compete against a struggling Auburn offense.

Why does this matter for Mississippi State football fans?
If the Bulldogs want their win over the then 8th ranked team in the country to continue to mean something down the stretch of this season, then MSU fans should hope that the Auburn Tigers get back to their winning ways.
The Tigers have talent, but there’s plenty of questions about how ineffective their offense has been this year.
Malzahn can’t for Auburn to lose a game like this and Joe Moorhead should want a team that he throttled to win. The more wins that Auburn gets, the better the Bulldogs’ résumé looks at the end of the season.
