SEC football: Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators are going up to Nashville, Tennessee to battle the Vanderbilt Commodores.

The first season of the Dan Mullen era of Florida Gator football is going better than many on the outside expected. Todd Grantham and his defense have been wrecking opposing offensive lines and thrashing quarterbacks while Mullen continues to install his offense at a pace that works for the Gators.

Meanwhile, in Nashville, Tennessee, the Vanderbilt Commodores aren’t having a ton of fun or success. The Commodores are 3-3 and Derek Mason’s team is trying to find a way to get a win to start to salvage this season. Mason can’t afford for his team to spiral given what lies ahead on their schedule this year.

This week, Florida is searching for one more win before the Gators go into their bye week. Vanderbilt is simply searching for a win to get this year back on track. The Gators are a better team, but Mullen’s group can’t let last week’s win over LSU create an emotional hangover. Florida also can’t look ahead beyond the bye week to the annual meeting with Georgia.

How To Keep Up With The Game

Why does this matter for Mississippi State football fans?

There’s not much about this game that will directly impact the Mississippi State Bulldogs. However, MSU recently played Florida and lost. It looks better for the Bulldogs, unfortunately, if Mullen and his team continue to win.

For that loss to be minimized in how much it hurts the Mississippi State football team this season, Florida needs to keep winning.

Now, I’m not going to tell you to root for Mullen and his team. It would be hilarious if the Vanderbilt Commodores pulled off an unlikely upset here. But, if MSU wants to make sure that this loss doesn’t sting so badly, them Bulldog fans should hope that the Gators win here.
