The Mississippi State football team is an underdog against the Auburn Tigers

After two embarrassing losses in back-to-back weeks, it makes plenty of sense for the folks over in Las Vegas (and other sports betting areas) to doubt the Mississippi State football team. The Bulldogs haven’t proven capable of doing anything in the last two games against Southeastern Conference foes lately.

Mississippi State will get another crack at an opponent from the SEC this weekend to prove its doubters wrong. Auburn and Mississippi State will play this weekend in a game that is already failing to live up to the offseason hype it was receiving from fans and media members alike. Regardless of all of that, when the Bulldogs do play the Tigers, it won’t be the home team that is favored.

That’s right, the Auburn Tigers are the team that is being favored in this game at the moment. Depending on which line you’re looking at, the Bulldogs are a 3 to 4 point underdog. Most lines opened up at 4 points and have since fallen a bit down to just a field goal.

And, well, it does make sense that MSU wouldn’t be favored here.

More from Mississippi State Football

Mississippi State has scored a grand total of 13 points in the past two weeks against SEC competition. While MSU’s defense has played incredibly well and given the Bulldogs chances to win, State’s offense has completely fallen apart.

All of that said, the Mississippi State football team isn’t the only one that has struggled offensively as of late.

Against the Arkansas Razorbacks two weeks ago, the Tigers scored 34 points but sputtered up and down the field, lacking the ability to sustain a drive. Last week against Southern Miss, the Tigers only put up 24 points.

And so, while the Auburn Tigers haven’t played great football lately, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have played even worse. The lack of any sort of offense from the Bulldogs in the past two weeks has kept them from being a favorite in this game.

It’s odd that the Mississippi State football team is essentially an underdog by a field goal to a top 10 ranked team given how the Bulldogs have struggled, but that gap still feels too big for this offense to cross.

dark. Next. Should MSU switch quarterbacks?

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers will face each other this Saturday at 6:30 PM Central Time. MSU is currently on a two year losing streak to Auburn. Hopefully Joe Moorhead can fix this offense this week and give the Bulldogs a chance to win this game and end that streak.
