SEC Football: No. 10 Auburn Tigers ready to face Southern Miss

The 10th ranked Auburn Tigers are set to take the field against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles this afternoon. The Tigers are 3-1 on the year and have been a rather mysterious team at times in certain games.

Auburn opened up the season with a solid victory over a highly ranked Washington Huskies team. And then, well, a blowout win over Alabama State was quickly followed up by an upset loss to the LSU Tigers on Auburn’s own field.

And then nobody was really quite sure of just how good Auburn actually is. It’s possible that LSU is truly a great team this season and that they caught Auburn off guard, but it’s still early in the year. Auburn responded by crushing Arkansas last week, but the Tigers only had 225 yards of offense.

Why does this SEC football game matter for Mississippi State football fans?

The Auburn Tigers come to Starkville, Mississippi next weekend. The Mississippi State football team needs wins and the Bulldogs could use them pretty badly right now. No, MSU isn’t necessarily in danger of not making it to a bowl right now, but last week’s loss to Kentucky hurt the Bulldogs’ hopes for this season.

Auburn, similarly, was shocked by the LSU Tigers. It wasn’t necessarily as bad of a loss, but it wasn’t what Auburn wanted. Last weekend’s response to that loss wasn’t necessarily all that impressive either.

The Tigers look vulnerable right now. Unfortunately, so do the Mississippi State Bulldogs. It’s possible that Auburn’s game against Southern Miss could give MSU a better idea of who exactly the Tigers are right now.
