It’s the fifth week of the 2018 Mississippi State football season. Get ready for it!

Start waking up, folks! It’s officially Mississippi State football game day! We’ve gone through one-third of the 2018 college football season and the Mississippi State Bulldogs sit at No. 23 in the AP poll, No. 19 in the Amway Coaches poll, and and they’re 3-1 on the field.

Last weekend didn’t go as planned.

I think all MSU fans can wholeheartedly agree that it would’ve been great had the Mississippi State Bulldogs made it to this point in the season with an undefeated record. But Kentucky had other plans and Joe Moorhead and the State football team simply couldn’t adjust to the Wildcats.

And now, Mississippi State sits at 3-1. The Bulldogs could spend this time dejected and defeated. Or, well, MSU could do everything possible to bounce back and salvage this season.

Let’s go with the latter and not the former.

More from Maroon and White Nation

This evening, Dan Mullen returns to town. The former head coach of the Mississippi State football team comes to Starkville with the Florida Gators. The Gators are unranked but hold the exact same record as the Bulldogs. Both teams are 3-1. Both teams have lost to Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats. Both offenses looked inept when they faced Kentucky.

When the Bulldogs lost their game last week, it was largely due to unforced errors, penalties, and mental mistakes. Mississippi State played emotional football and lost because of it.

Now, there’s great potential for yet another emotional football game tonight.

Moorhead and his coaching staff need to keep this team reigned in and focused on the task at hand when the Bulldogs and the Gators play. Mississippi State can not afford to waste the opportunity to advance to 4-1 this evening.

The Bulldogs will play the Auburn Tigers next weekend in what should have been a notably bigger game than what it currently is. But that doesn’t matter. Tonight, the Bulldogs will play the Florida Gators in what should have been a notably bigger game than what it currently is. But that doesn’t matter either.

What does matter is what happens on the field tonight. MSU must take things one week at a time, play disciplined football, and not let this potentially great season spiral. The Bulldogs can come out of tonight with a huge victory that would allow for fans to move on from last week’s humiliating loss. Get ready for Mississippi State’s game against Florida, folks. It’s officially game day.
