SEC Power Rankings: Week 2
Each week of the 2018 football season, you can check back here for your weekly update to the SEC Power Rankings.
One week is down. There weren’t really any surprises in the SEC until Sunday happened when LSU took Miami down in convincing fashion.
That one game had the biggest impact on the SEC Power Rankings this week. The top 5 gets some readjusting, but not too much changes after that.
So without further adieu, here are the SEC Power Rankings for Week 2.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0, Last Week: #1)
The Crimson Tide dominated the Louisville Cardinals. They won’ budge from this spot until (if) they lose a game
2. Auburn Tigers (1-0, Last Week: #2)
Auburn probably had the toughest opponent for the first week of the season. For that, they get to move up a spot to number 2. But their offensive line needs to improve quickly.
3. LSU Tigers (1-0, Last Week: #8)
When I do Power Rankings, I’m a firm believer in doing them based on what we have seen on the field, not on what I think about the team in general. I’m not 100% convinced LSU is the third best team in the SEC but based on who they played, and how they played, LSU deserves to move up to this spot.
4. Georgia Bulldogs (1-0, Last Week: #2)
Georgia will likely move back up to the number 2 spot soon enough, but for now Auburn and LSU deserve to go up simply based on the results we have seen on the field.
5. Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0, Last Week: #4)
Much like Georgia, Mississippi State could move back up in the next few weeks. But for now, they had to go down a spot due to LSU moving up.
6. South Carolina Gamecocks (1-0, Last Week: #5)
South Carolina gets a chance to make some major noise this week if they can take out the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
7. Ole Miss Rebels (1-0, Last Week: #10)
I would have moved Ole Miss up more with their performance against Texas Tech, but I’m still not convinced that defense will be able to hold up all year long when they have to go up against a team with their normal starting quarterback.

8. Texas A&M Aggies (1-0, Last Week: #7)
I still have questions about the toughness of this team. We’ll find out more about the Aggies when the competition stiffens up.
9. Florida Gators (1-0, Last Week: #8)
Feleipe Franks looked great in his debut under Dan Mullen. Was that the result of Dan Mullen’s coaching prowess with quarterbacks, or was it simply a bad Charleston Southern team?
10. Missouri Tigers (1-0, Last Week: #9)
The Tigers looked fine, but again, the team they played was pretty bad.
11. Kentucky Wildcats (1-0, Last Week: #11)
Kentucky looked good in a win over Central Michigan. Normally, that would cause me to be a little more impressed, but CMU lost quite a bit from last year’s team.
12. Vanderbilt Commodores (1-0, Last Week: #12)
Vanderbilt was solid in their win over Middle Tennessee State. We’ll see if they can keep it up as the year progresses.
13. Arkansas Razorbacks (1-0, Last Week: #13)
What I’ve said about most of the teams this week applies to Arkansas. Can’t really tell if a good performance was because of an improvement in the team or just a bad opponent.
14. Tennessee Volunteers (1-0, Last Week: #14)
The Vols were the only team in the SEC last week, and they lost big. If Vols’ fans are expecting a turnaround in year 1 under Jeremy Pruitt, they will likely be disappointed.
That wraps up the second edition of the SEC Power Rankings. Check back next week to see how much change there is after the first set of games.
