The Mississippi State football team was ranked for the preseason in one of college football’s most well known weekly rankings.

The 2018 Mississippi State football season is one of the most highly anticipated seasons in recent memory. There has been an unusual amount of hype regarding the Bulldogs prior to the season, and the team was picked to finish 3rd in the SEC West by media members at SEC Media Days.

So it should come without too much of a surprise that Mississippi State was ranked in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll. The Bulldogs were tabbed 18th in the country and were the 4th highest ranked SEC team and the third highest ranked SEC West team.

It has been a long time since Mississippi State was so highly regarded by the coaches in the preseason. As a matter of fact, the Bulldogs haven’t been ranked this high since 1981 in the preseason coaches according to Brett Hudson.

Other SEC schools that were ranked included Alabama at number one, Georgia at number four, Auburn at number ten, and LSU at number twenty-four. Other SEC schools that received votes were South Carolina, Florida, Texas A&M, and Kentucky.
