Five Thoughts On Mississippi State Baseball Hiring Chris Lemonis

Keeping Jake Gautreau With Mississippi State Baseball Is Important
Chris Lemonis isn’t going to be the only important recruiter to stay with the Bulldogs. According to Kendall Rogers’ report, it looks like Jake Gautreau will remain in Starkville to coach alongside Lemonis.
That’s incredibly important for Lemonis and the Bulldogs.
Due to some improbable and wild circumstances, Lemonis is the fourth head coach of the Mississippi State baseball team in as many years. John Cohen stepped back to become the athletic director and brought in Andy Cannizaro. Cannizaro had success on the field but left for off the field issues. That led to Gary Henderson leading things for the vast majority of this season.
There’s little continuity in all of that. Keeping a key part of this College World Series run that might give the Bulldogs a sense of normalcy is important for Mississippi State.
But it’s not just that. Jake Gautreau is also regarded as one of the best recruiters in the nation. Pairing him up with a relatively young head coach who specializes in recruiting like Lemonis will set Mississippi State up for some impressive recruiting hauls in the near future.
