While most of the Mississippi State fan base is interested in watching what the Bulldogs do in Hattiesburg, the football team earned a commitment from an underrated prospect.

Clanga!

During summer camps for prospects, Mississippi State was impressed by a 6’5″ tight end by the name of Brad Cumbest.

Cumbest, a physical tight end out of East Central High School in Moss Point, earned offers from both the Bulldogs and Ole Miss on Saturday. He gave his commitment to the latter.

According to Will Sammon of the Clarion-Ledger, the Bulldogs did not go into the weekend expecting a commitment. Cumbest’s camp changed their minds. Cumbest told Sammon that he “grew up a State fan”:

"“I grew up a State fan,” Cumbest said, “and I love (tight ends) coach (D.J.) Looney and coach (Dan) Mullen.”"

Per Paul Jones of Bulldawgs247, Mullen called in the staff to meet with Cumbest after his camp performance. Cumbest notes he “looks good” in Maroon and White:

"“It didn’t take me long to decide,” said the 6-foot-5 and 225-pound Cumbest. “We were talking in Coach Mullen’s office for about an hour and then he went to a staff meeting to talk about me. Then he called me and said he had an offer for me. I said ‘thank you coach and I am committing to Mississippi State.”“I am truly blessed today,” said Cumbest. “Mississippi State is where I always wanted to play football and I look good in Maroon and White. I really like their staff more than anything and it is like family there. My family is supporting my decision and they have my back no matter what.”"

Cumbest is considered a raw prospect out Mississippi. The 6’5″, 225 lbs tight end is currently unrated on 247Sports. However, Cumbest earned an offer from Ole Miss and obviously impressed the coaches enough for them to accept his commitment.

Cumbest joins Starkville’s Cameron Gardner as the other tight end in Mississippi State’s 2018 recruiting class, which is ranked 29th nationally.
