Mississippi State football is only ninety-four days away! Two of the Bulldogs’ bigger games of the upcoming season will be played under the lights.

We are getting closer and closer to Saturday nights in Davis Wade!

On Wednesday afternoon, Mississippi State announced that two of their premier games will be played in primetime this fall.

From the official release:

"The Bulldogs’ Sept. 16 SEC opener against LSU will kick off at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN or ESPN2. The Egg Bowl returns to Thanksgiving night for a 6:30 p.m. CT primetime start on ESPN from Starkville. It marks the eighth straight year that MSU-LSU will be a primetime contest. The series has been decided by five points or less in each of the last three meetings."

As noted above, the Bulldogs and the Tigers have been in close battles as of late. Since Dak Prescott and company stormed into Death Valley in 2014, Mississippi State has had the mentality that they can defeat the Bayou Bengals.

More from Maroon and White Nation

Unfortunately, State has failed to beat LSU since, but the games have been tightly competitive — the Bulldogs fell 21-19 after a missed field goal in 2015 and a late Damian Williams rally came up short in a 23-20 loss last season.

As for the Egg Bowl, Mississippi State and Ole Miss will battle on Thanksgiving Night for the first time since 2013. State is coming off one of the most lopsided victories in the rivalry’s lengthy history. Nick Fitzgerald went into Oxford and racked up 367 total yards and five touchdowns in a 55-20 blowout victory.

Moving the game back to Thanksgiving Night will give the Egg Bowl a national platform that the intense rivalry deserves.

Fitzgerald and Mississippi State look to build on some of their late season momentum heading into the 2017 season. With an experienced quarterback and a new defensive staff, the Bulldogs look to turn heads.
