Quick look at Mississippi State’s 2018 Basketball Recruiting Targets
Ben Howland’s stellar recruiting classes should carry over to the 2018 cycle, with the talent of Robert Woodard and others in the state of Mississippi.
Ben Howland has proven his worth on the recruiting trail as he has landed a string of 4 and 5 star prospects, and 2018 should be no different. Mississippi State’s basketball roster boasts many stellar prospects on their current roster, and they look to add to that this upcoming cycle.
Mississippi State will have the opportunity to sign two players this cycle, and maybe three if Howland does not add a transfer. The top target in this class is 4 star, legacy Robert Woodard.
Woodard is rated as the 11th best Small Forward in the 2018 class, and 40th overall by 247 sports. Experts consider him the best Mississippi prospect in the 2018 class. Woodard would continue Howland’s trend of bringing high quality talent to Starkville, but he won’t have to go far, as he enters his Senior year at Columbus High School. The Mississippi State legacy is currently 100% projected to commit to Mississippi State. His highlight tape shows his natural ability, and how his skill set covers many aspects of the game.
Woodard is obviously the top priority in this class, but the Bulldogs are also looking toward getting Javian Fleming or D.J. Stewart. Javian Fleming does not have an offer from Mississippi State, but has received interest, and holds offers from: Iowa State, Cincinnati, Alabama, and Auburn, and 247 sports projects him 100% to commit to Mississippi State.
D.J. Stewart, However does hold a Mississippi State offer as well as, offers from Illinois, Alabama, and Ole Miss. D.j. Stewart is rated as a 3 Star by Scout, and considered the 2nd highest recruit in the state. He is projected 100% to commit to Mississippi State.
Ben Howland has transformed Mississippi State’s recruiting outlook back to before, and the results should follow suit. After landing a top 10 recruiting class in 2016 and 5-star guard Nick Weatherspoon in the 2017 cycle, Ben Howland has Mississippi State on the rise in the SEC.
