After winning game one in dominant fashion, Mississippi State drops both game two and game three to the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.

The last two days of baseball has been rough for the Bulldogs in Maroon.

Yesterday Mississippi State pitchers struggled with command and couldn’t get the timely hits in a 4-1 loss. Today was most of the same in a 4-0 defeat. Jacob Billingsley got the start on the mound for the bulldogs, but was pulled after a two run homer from Michael Curry in the first inning. Cole Gordon came in and had a good outing allowing no runs in four innings of work.

Mississippi State struggled to get the timely hit all afternoon. The Bulldogs were able to load the bases in the fifth with two outs, but a fly out to deep left field killed the hopes of a Mississippi State rally. One play in particular basically summed up the weekend for Mississippi State: Luke Alexander hit a shot back up the middle that ricocheted off the pitchers foot right to the first baseman for an out.

Riley Self came on in relief for Cole Gordon in the fifth inning, and gave the Bulldogs two innings of scoreless work. Georgia was able to plate two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh against Spencer Price, pushing their lead out to 4-0. Bulldogs were able to trim the lead a bit in the eighth on a sac fly from Elijah Macnamee that plated Cody Brown, but couldn’t get any closer.

Chase Adkins got the start for Georgia where he was able to go six complete innings of scoreless work. Adkins got into trouble a couple times, including a bases loaded jam in the fifth, but was able to make the big pitch when he needed it most. Tony Locy came in the game in the seventh inning for an inning before being pulled for Drew Moody who eventually gave up a run on a sac fly in the eighth.
