MSU News & Notes | Ben Howland’s Preseason Press Conference
Former Mississippi State offensive lineman Randy Thomas was named as an SEC Football Legend, and some news from Bulldog baseball and basketball.
Here’s what the SEC said about Randy Thomas in their press release:
"Mississippi State offensive guard Randy Thomas was a two-year starter for the Bulldog from 1997-98. Thomas was a valuable leader of MSU’s 1998 SEC Western Division championship team that reached the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. Although he didn’t start playing football until the tenth grade, he started all 24 games of his career at Mississippi State while earning second-team All-America honors by the Sporting News and second-team All-SEC accolades by the Associated Press as a senior. Thomas was selected in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, becoming the highest drafted MSU offensive lineman since 1976 at the time. Thomas played 11 NFL seasons, starting 143 games from 1999-2009 that included stints with the Jets and Washington Redskins."
It’s always great to see former Bulldogs recognized for their excellence. Randy Thomas is one who really helped put those late-90s teams on the map.

Former Diamond Dawgs in MLB Playoffs
It’s the usual suspects in the MLB playoffs as Buck Showalter has once again led his team to the postseason. This will be the third time he’s led the Baltimore Orioles to the playoffs and the fifth time he’s coach a team in October.
Mitch Moreland will be in the playoffs as well. It will be his fifth postseason with the Texas Rangers. Mitch’s stats were down a little this year but he still slugged 22 home runs.
