Daniel Brown continued his 2016 turnaround for the Mississippi State baseball team by shutting down Southeast Missouri State in relief.

The Mississippi State baseball team was supposed to have three quality pitchers for the weekend in 2016. Dakota Hudson, Austin Sexton, and Daniel Brown were supposed to make life difficult on opposing hitters.

Two of those pitchers panned out. Daniel Brown struggled mightily in his role as the third starter on the weekend. He lost the role after his last unimpressive performance on Sunday of the Ole Miss series.

But since going to the bullpen, Daniel Brown has been much more consistent. It appears he is like Jacob Lindgren and Chad Girodo. Something about being the first guy on the mound gets them out of their comfort zones.

The Mississippi State baseball team needed Daniel Brown to step up big in the team’s first game of the NCAA Tournament. Dakota Hudson resembled the pitcher most of us were familiar with during his tough stretch that started against the Florida Gators. Hudson gave up four earned runs, walked four, and allowed four hits in 3.1 innings.

Ryan Rigby was called upon to help slow the bleeding, but he didn’t fare much better. He gave up a run in 2.1 innings. The Bulldogs had fought back to tie the game, but Rigby gave up an RBI single to give the Redhawks the lead again.

Daniel Brown came in for the Mississippi State baseball team after the RBI single and shut the vaunted Redhawks offense completely down. He pitched the final 3.1 innings, gave up no hits in that time, walked one,  and struck out four hitters.

When Dakota Hudson doesn’t pitch like he is capable of doing so, the Mississippi State baseball team is usually in trouble. But thanks to Daniel Brown embracing his role as a quality pitcher who can come out of the bullpen, the Bulldogs were just fine in the first game of their regional.
