The long awaited decision on Jeffery Simmons will come later this week as it appears the Five Star Signee enrolled earlier this week.

Ever since Jeffery Simmons was caught on video in an altercation with his sister and another woman, many have been waiting to see what Dan Mullen would do. Most anticipated Simmons would be enrolled, but we didn’t know if the highly talented defensive lineman would face disciplinary action for his actions.

We now know Jeffery Simmons was enrolled at Mississippi State. If you click on the link at FWtCT, you’ll see the tweet Steve Robertson of Genes Page sent out, but later deleted. It’s a picture of a Mississippi State Student ID with Jeffery Simmons on it.

Robertson later deleted the tweet because Dan Mullen and his staff told Mike Bonner they were close  to a resolution regarding Simmons. It appears they were not wanting to make an announcement at this time.

If you want a good guess on when the announcement on the resolution Dan Mullen came to in regards to Jeffery Simmons, look for it to be announced late in the day on Friday. Whether or not you believe Mississippi State should take him or not, the school and the football program will take a hit from a PR standpoint. And when a school knows that is going to happen, they usually make those announcements late in the day on Friday.

While it appears Mississippi State has enrolled Simmons, there is still information to be learned. Dan Mullen has many different options he can choose to employ. I gave my opinion when the incident initially happened. Some of you agreed with it, many of you didn’t. Here are some of the routes you could reasonably infer Dan Mullen will explore.

  • Admit Simmons without any disciplinary action since he was not yet a student and player at Mississippi State.
  • Give Simmons a light one game suspension.
  • Give Simmons a more stringent suspension where the incoming freshman misses multiple games.
  • Force Simmons to redshirt and not play the upcoming season.

When the announcement is made about how Dan Mullen is going to handle any disciplinary action regarding Jeffery Simmons, expect there to be backlash. It is simply what comes with taking a high profile athlete who had a highly visible off field incident. The coaches and athletic department are showing they are ready to face such criticism, and fans need to be prepared for the criticism as well.
