Most people who project the NCAA Tournament field tend to believe if the Bulldogs can simply win out, they will find themselves as one of the eight national seeds. Right now, lets look at three different projections that are available.
Perfect Game currently has the Mississippi State baseball team projected as the #5 National Seed. Perfect Game doesn’t project out Regionals so we don’t know who they think the Bulldogs would be playing,
One thing that is interesting to note, Perfect Game is projecting the SEC to get 5 National Seeds total. Unless I am mistaken, the selection committee has never given a conference more than three national seeds, so this would be a huge change of pace. The ACC has the other two and the Big 12 has one.
There’s more detail listed in the projection by D1 Baseball. The Mississippi State baseball team is also projected as the #5 seed like they have been for a number of weeks.
The teams projected to their regional has changed some from last week. Here is who D1 Baseball thinks joins the Bulldogs in Starkville.
- #2 Seed – Georgia Tech
- #3 Seed – Southeastern Louisiana
- #4 Seed – Alabama State
The regional opposite the Bulldogs would be the same one as last week and has also been consistent by the D1 Baseball staff. It would be hosted by Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.

Other interesting items to note in this projection. The SEC has four national seeds, with South Carolina beating out Ole Miss for the last National Seed. The SEC gets nine bids in this projection.
We also get more details from Baseball America’s Projection. The Mississippi State baseball team is projected to be the #6 National Seed, which is up from the #8 spot where they had been projected for a number of weeks.
There is some consistency about the opponents the Bulldogs would face between D1 Baseball and Baseball America. Here is who BA has coming to Starkville.
- #2 Seed – Georgia Tech
- #3 Seed – Southeastern Louisiana
- #4 Seed – Princeton
Like last week, Baseball America has the regional being hosted in Raleigh, NC by N.C. State as the regional opposite the one in Starkville.
Baseball America has four SEC teams hosting as well. The difference is they have South Carolina not as the #8 seed, but as the #7 seed. There are also nine teams from the SEC projected to make the field.
Looking ahead
The Mississippi State baseball team obviously wants to win the SEC West and overall SEC Championship. But if they can’t do that, most people seem to think simply winning the series this weekend and a decent showing the SEC Tournament this weekend will do a pretty good job of locking up a national seed.
