Looking at where Mississippi State Baseball is Projected for the Postseason

The Mississippi State baseball team and its fans should be excited about what the experts are saying about the team and where they will play in the postseason.

After the 2015 Mississippi State baseball team completed their disaster of a season, fans are itching at the prospect of seeing their beloved Bulldogs back in the postseason. And so far, things are looking really nice for MSU.

There are three major publications when it comes to college baseball who consistently have things straight on their website. Those three are D1baseball.com, Baseball America, and Perfect Game. Tow of the three have been making NCAA Tournament projections since about the midpoint of the season. Perfect Game has yet to release one, or if they have, I just can’t find it.

In D1baseball. com’s most recent projection, this is where the Mississippi State baseball team would be slotted. They would be the #1 seed in a regional played at Dudy Noble Field and the #5 National Seed. The other three teams joining them would be #2 seed Louisiana-Lafayette, #3 seed Wake Forest, and #4 seed Alabama State.

The regional paired with the Bulldogs is the one hosted by Southern Miss. They have Oklahoma State, Alabama, and VCU playing in Hattiesburg.

Over at Baseball America’s Projection, the Mississippi State baseball team also hosts a regional as a national seed, but they are lower at the #8 National Seed. The #2 seed would be Georgia Tech, #3 seed Maryland, and the #4 seed would also be Alabama State.

According to Baseball America, the regional paired with the Bulldogs in this scenario would be N.C. State’s regional with East Carolina, Michigan State, and UNC Greensboro.

Obviously, as a Mississippi State baseball fan, your preference would be to have it play out closer to D1baseball’s projection. The Bulldogs are seeded better, and though Southern Miss would be a difficult team if both teams made it through their regional, it wouldn’t be the challenge N.C. State from the potent ACC would bring to the table.

All of this will be a moot point if the Bulldogs don’t take care of business over the course of the next two weeks. If the Bulldogs can win their next two series against Auburn and Arkansas, then MSU should be in a favorable position once the NCAA tournament begins in June.
