Some random thoughts for this week on everything related to Mississippi State Bulldogs Athletics.

New Year, New Team
It’s funny the difference a year can make. This time last year we were all trying to forget the baseball season for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. This year we are wondering if this is going to be a season we will never forget.

A lot of fans were willing to write off John Cohen after 2015. This was just two years removed from the coach taking the team to a place it had never been before. It isn’t a knock on the fans of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. It is a knock on the state of sports in general today. Cohen is a good coach, even if we don’t always agree with some of the things he does.

Will the bottom fall out?
Speaking of the baseball team, as a fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, it is naturally ingrained in most of us to think that something is about to go terribly wrong whenever one of our teams are playing really well. So is that going to be the case in 2016?

I can make a number of arguments for why it will or it won’t, but in general I just think this team is different. Cohen has recruited at a high level for a number of years, and now the Bulldogs are reaping the benefits. When you have quality players all over the team, just let them play and do what they do. And so far, that is exactly what Cohen has done.

A peak ahead to football
The 2016 Mississippi State Bulldogs football season will be the fourth one I have written about as a blogger. And in general, I don’t think there has been one I am less sure of than the upcoming one.

I could see this team winning as few as five games or as many as ten. With there being so many uncertainties on the offensive side of the football, it is almost impossible to get a good read on what this team will be like in 2016.

With that being said, Dan Mullen has six straight winning seasons with six straight bowl appearances. I have all the confidence in the world the Mississippi State Bulldogs will be competitive in 2016. I just don’t know how much they will win.

Something is amiss with De’Runnya Wilson
No one thought De’Runnya Wilson made a mistake by electing to skip his junior season and jump to the NFL. But as Josh wrote earlier this week, it looks like he made a big one.

Wilson can’t find a home on an NFL team. Either there is something we aren’t hearing, or once scouts saw his combine numbers, they went back and looked at Wilson’s film and dissected it a little more closely.

When De’Runnya Wilson first appeared for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, he was considered raw, but talented. He often relied far more on his talents than trying to improve on his skills as a wide receiver for Mississippi State, and choosing not to work on his skills as a receiver might have cost him a career in the NFL.

Summer Fun has just begun
We have reached the middle of May, and that means summer is just on the horizon. I don’t blog for a career. I’m a teacher when it comes to my career, so that means I’ll have some free time in the upcoming months.

There usually isn’t a lot going on with the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the summer months, so I like to play around with ideas on the blog during this time. If there is anything you would like to see us do on the site, now would be a good time to suggest it.
