Mississippi State wins first series over LSU since 2006
Mississippi State won Game 2 vs. LSU for their first series win over the Tigers since 2006.
The LSU Tigers have been a thorn in the Bulldogs’ side for a long while. Not only does State have trouble with LSU on the gridiron, but the diamond as well. In what has always been viewed by both fanbases as one of the biggest series of the year, MSU finally wins one for the first time in a decade.
State was ranked #1 in the nation the last time they beat LSU in a series. And they have a chance for the sweep this year.

Mississippi State won Game 2 on Saturday night, 2-1. Austin Sexton pitched a great ballgame. He had the unenviable task of going against Alex Lange – a 1st team All-American in 2015 and projected to be one of the top pitchers taken in the MLB Draft this year. But Sexton out-dueled him (despite Lange throwing a complete game).
Sexton threw gems against Nicholls State and Ole Miss earlier in the year which were complete game shutouts, but this one was up there as well. He ended up going 7.1 innings and allowing one run on five hits. Daniel Brown came in during the 8th inning to put a fire, then gave way to Reid Humphreys who earned his second save of the weekend and fifth this year.
Jack Kruger hasn’t been seen much in April after getting off to a tremendous start early in the year. He’s been in the lineup for this series, however, and delivered a mammoth solo home run in the 1st inning to give State an early lead. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the middle innings on an unearned run.
MSU is now 10-7 in SEC play. Game 3 will be Sunday at noon on ESPN2.
