The Mississippi State Bulldogs sit at 7-2 and 3-2 in the SEC West. We all knew the Alabama game would be big, and it will be but what all is at stake for the Bulldogs? There are a few things.

Any SEC West Hopes
The Bulldogs are clinging to any slim SEC West hopes they have. Mississippi State needed LSU to start losing, and Alabama helped them out. The only issue now is Alabama is coming into Starkville with a boat load of momentum. But for now, I’m just thankful for the help against LSU.

A Special Season
Mississippi State is going to need help to get to Atlanta, and it is no guarantee they get it, even if State were to pull out the upset against the Crimson Tide. But getting consecutive 10 win seasons is still possible, and the momentum of the program would be as strong as ever.

Any Chances at a Playoff
Ole Miss hurt any chances of finding their way into the Playoff by losing. So if State were to beat Ole Miss, a win over a 4 loss or possible 5 loss team wouldn’t be all that impressive. But none of it will matter if Mississippi State doesn’t beat Alabama. The chances of getting in with two losses isn’t likely, but it isn’t impossible.

Dak Prescott’s Renewed Heisman Chances
Dak Prescott is making a late push for the Heisman. The chase for the award was thrown wide open when Leonard Fournette was shut down by the Crimson Tide. Now Derrick Henry might be the front runner, but it isn’t a unanimous choice. If Mississippi State can win, Dak Prescott will be the reason. The Bulldogs can’t win without a spectacular performance from Prescott, so if Mississippi State wins this weekend, Prescott might not only be further in the mix, he might be the leader of the pack.

And no one will predict State to win this week, so if reading national predictions from people picking against State gets your blood pressure boiling, you might want to avoid reading prediction pieces. I think State can win, but it will bet the biggest challenge Mullen and the Bulldogs face all season. Time to see just how good this team is.
