It’s mid August which means it’s almost high school football time in the State of Mississippi – which means it’s also time to start revealing our Mississippi High School Elite Top 10.
We will be releasing a team per day for the next two weeks to give you who we think are the top high school football programs in the State of Mississippi, regardless of classification.
Today we look at number – 3 The Oxford Chargers
Classification: 5A
Last Year: Finished 13-2 and finished as runner-up to Laurel in 5A.
Johnny Hill’s Oxford Chargers are again the favorite in North 5A and this time, the Chargers look to close the deal with a state championship. Oxford has played for the state championship the last two years, but have come up on the short end of the stick on both opportunities.

The Chargers return Jack Abraham at quarterback and he is arguably the best signal caller in the state of Mississippi. Abraham threw for 3,304 yards and 35 touchdowns a year ago and only threw eight interceptions.
Abraham will be throwing to a talented group of receivers again this year led by all state player D.K. Metcalf. Metcalf is one of the top players in the state of Mississippi and is the leader in a position group that is as strong as any in the state.
Thomas Allen is back to lead the Charger defense, where he accounted for 146 total tackles a year ago. The Chargers gave up just over 18 points per game on defense a year ago and while Hill loves his offense, he has a great deal of confidence that his defense will be even better in 2015. Oxford is our number three team in our preseason top ten elite poll and don’t be surprised to see Oxford back in the championship game for a third straight year come December.
