5. Darren Williams
2002 Signing Class
Williams was one of the top recruits in the country in 2002, one of the last signing classes Jackie Sherrill brought to Mississippi State. He was a 5 star prospect who didn’t pan out for several reasons.

The biggest issue Williams had was health. He didn’t stay on the field for long stretches because he simply couldn’t stay healthy. When he was in the field, he played well. Williams accumulated 7 interceptions over the course of the 2002 and 2004 seasons.
His other issue were some character flaws. He was dismissed from the team by Sylvester Croom before his senior season for a violation of team rules. The actual violations were never disclosed.
Williams story doesn’t have a happy ending unfortunately. In October of 2006, Williams was gunned down after getting out of his car. He was only 23 years old when he died.
