Mississippi State football takes on Texas A&M in Starkville today, and it's a more special Saturday than usual. During the game, the legendary 2014 MSU football team, which won 10-games and reached the program's first-ever #1 ranking, will be honored, 10 years after they brought Bulldog fans some of the best memories they'll ever had.

As as a part of the festivities, two of the most important pieces of that 2014 team will be in attendance.

Dak Prescott in attendance for Mississippi State vs Texas A&M

The greatest Bulldog to ever step foot in Davis Wade Stadium will once again walk across Scott Field. Former Mississippi State quarterback and current Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott is in attendance for his Bulldogs' showdown with the Aggies.

Prescott was the leader of that 2014 squad, carrying the Bulldogs to wins and putting up huge numbers to vault himself into the Heisman conversation throughout the year. Dak has remained a great ambassador for his school since going off to the NFL, supporting other MSU sports and making occasional returns to Starkville. But his professional schedule has prevented him from getting back to home football games.

State made sure to align the 2014-reunion with the Dallas Cowboys' bye week. You can't honor that team without having Dak there, and I imagine his return will urge quite a few more MSU fans to be in attendance.

Dan Mullen makes his return to Davis Wade Stadium

It wouldn't be right to honor one of the best teams in school history without having the man who recruited that roster and coached that team to 10-wins and a #1 ranking. For the first time since his final game as Mississippi State coach in 2017, Dan Mullen will be representing the Bulldogs in Davis Wade Stadium.

Mullen is undoubtedly one of the greatest Mississippi State coaches ever, but getting him back to Starkville for a game has been tricky since the end of his tenure. Mullen, of course, left for Florida and actually coached the Gators for a game vs State in Starkville in 2018. Even now that Mullen is no longer coaching, there are still mixed feelings on him amongst the fanbase.

But overall, it's been more than enough time to have him back and celebrate his unmatched accomplishments. The 2014 season doesn't happen without Dan Mullen leading the team, and it's great to have him back to be apart of the festivities alongside his former players.

This should be an awesome day in Starkville getting to honor arguably the greatest team in school history. Hopefully the 2024 Bulldogs can make it even sweeter with an upset victory.
