Meeting Mississippi State football opponent: Week 11 – Texas A&M Aggies
By Evan Ertel
With two games to go after this weekend, one being a buy game and the other LSU in Baton Rouge, how does a win or loss against MSU affect the trajectory of the remainder of the season?
A loss against MSU would be really devastating. There are those dissatisfied with Jimbo who are actually wishing for a loss in this game because they think it would get Jimbo fired almost immediately. This is a game, for Aggie fans, against a team with far lesser talent that runs an offensive scheme that plays right into the strength of the defense; conversely, the defense is small enough that the Aggies should be able to wear them down pretty effectively. Jimbo has only sustained one loss at A&M as a double-digit favorite, so I don’t think that will happen; but if Max Johnson misses the game and Will Rogers is able to play, that would be the Bulldogs’ best chance.
Of the three ranked losses that A&M has taken this season, which one do you think Fisher would like back most, and how many nights of sleep do you think Jimbo lost over the Alabama game?
I’m split between Alabama and Ole Miss. A two-game win streak against Alabama at home, with the one game in Tuscaloosa coming down to a two-yard pass in the final seconds, is a narrative that would help his perception a lot both among fans and with regard to recruiting. Ole Miss, though, would have overturned the now 10-game losing streak on the road, and the fact that he has yet to defeat a ranked team on the road in his entire tenure. Also, it would have felt nice for him to have shut up Lane Kiffin, I bet. Without knowing whether Jimbo takes melatonin, I’m going to go with four nights of sleep lost.
