College football schedule, week 6: Texas State at Louisiana-Lafayette

2:30 PM CT on ESPNU

What’s better than a game with one Sun Belt team? A game with two Sun Belt teams! We all need more Fun Belt in our lives. And this is a game that should absolutely be fun. These are two of the highest scoring teams in the league, and there’s a good chance we get a shootout.

Texas State has been one of the most fun stories so far this season. GJ Kinne came up from FCS Incarnate Word to San Marcos, bringing a wide open offense and a ton of transfers with him to turn around what’s traditionally among the worst teams in FBS. The Bobcats are 4-1, having opened their season with an upset over Baylor. They’re scoring over 43 points per game with former SEC QB TJ Finley slinging it around.

ULL was a Sun Belt power under Billy Napier, but they’ve fallen off some since last season. Still, they’re a respectable program, and they score plenty as well. ULL takes an “Always Run Never Pass” approach. They’re averaging 225 rush yards per game behind the rushing trio of RBs Jacob Kibodi and Dre’lyn Washington and RS freshman QB Zeon Chriss.

Not only do we have two great offenses, but we also have two suspect defenses. Texas State has just been bad all around on defense. ULL doesn’t give up a lot of yards, but they give up plenty of points. A terrible turnover margin contributes to that. It’s going to be hard for either defense to get off the field in this one. There’ll be plenty of fireworks.
