Mississippi State football has never faced the Ohio State Buckeyes

While the Mississippi State football program has often faced tough tests from historic brands thanks to the Mississippi State Bulldogs having the distinct pleasure of playing in the Southeastern Conference, MSU hasn’t faced one of the most successful and storied programs in the country.

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Mississippi State Bulldogs have never had the chance to meet up to this point in Mississippi State football history.

Head coach Ryan Day leads the perennial powerhouse that is routinely in contention for Big Ten titles. Heading into his fifth season leading the Buckeyes, Day has posted a 45-6 record, which is just absolutely absurd.

On top of their recent success, the Ohio State Buckeyes are also a powerhouse historically. The Buckeyes have won eight national championships, boast four college football playoff appearances, have won 41 conference titles, and have developed seven Heisman trophy winners, including Archie Griffin, Eddie George, Troy Smith and most recently Dwayne Haskins.

The Bulldogs face elite programs every year. They shouldn’t go out of their way to court a meeting with another. Unless this match up somehow happens in a bowl game, it’s not like Mississippi State needs to find a way to face Ohio State on the gridiron any time soon.

It’s not a bad thing that these two programs have never met on a football field.
