2023 Mississippi State football summer opponent preview: Southeastern Louisiana

Let’s get set for the upcoming Mississippi State football season by familiarizing ourselves with MSU’s opponents. And let’s start with Southeastern Louisiana.
The first game of the 2023 Mississippi State football season is against a pretty interesting FCS foe from a neighboring state. The Southeastern Louisiana Lions are coming to Starkville soon and they intend to provide a tough test for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
We’ll see if that actually happens.
Like Mississippi State, the Lions are fresh off of a 2022 season that featured nine wins. So, it stands to reason that they’re hoping to build upon that and provide a challenge to a notable SEC program.
But while this is the first meeting between these two programs, it’s unlikely that the Bulldogs will be caught off guard by Southeastern Louisiana. And it’s worth noting that there’s a significant talent differential that exists between these two teams.
Still, let’s take a gander at the Lions from Hammond and see what they’re bringing into 2023.

Zach Arnett and the Bulldogs really can’t afford to overlook anyone. And even though there’s a talent gulf that exists between these two programs, Mississippi State should probably take the Lions pretty seriously.
Southeastern Louisiana did just win its conference and the Lions put a scare into the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns to start the 2022 season.
So, you know, maybe the Bulldogs should do what they can to put this game away early. Focus. Take things seriously. Get a big lead. And then we all celebrate a contest that’s over at halftime. Everyone can get on board with that, right?
