No. 4: Mississippi State football vs. Arizona Wildcats

It’s hard to tell just how good the Arizona Wildcats will be, but it’s certainly clear that they won’t be anywhere near the toughest opponent on the 2023 Mississippi State football schedule. As such, this game is a relatively easy one (though the Bulldogs can’t afford to overlook the Wildcats at all).

While Arizona isn’t a powerhouse and the Wildcats are still in the process of rebuilding, they managed to give Mississippi State some trouble at times during the Bulldogs’ trip out west last season.

The 2022 meeting (that was essentially a Pac-12 After Dark sort of chaotic mess for MSU) ended up proving to be a pretty good test for State. Now, the Bulldogs did come out on top of that one by a few scores and this match up is in Starkville, so things should be more manageable this year than they were last season.

Still, Jedd Fisch and Brennan Carroll were able to scheme up an offense that, at times, put pressure on Zach Arnett’s defense. If the Wildcats are able to improve upon what they accomplished a season ago, this game could be a trap.

Or it could be a pretty straightforward win for Mississippi State since the Bulldogs won’t be traveling to Arizona for a game that started after some people’s bedtimes and ended up happening the week before a road trip to Baton Rouge.

MSU won’t be overlooking this contest as it falls in week two and is at home happening at the very reasonable time of 6:30 p.m. CT.
