No. 3: Mississippi State football vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles

While there are going to be plenty of Southern Miss Golden Eagles fans who bristle about this spot for this game, the Mississippi State football team has tougher contests at various times throughout the season. And so that’s why this game gets ranked right here.

The Bulldogs should have a notable talent advantage over the Golden Eagles and they should be prepared to get a win given that this contest is happening in the friendly confines of Davis Wade Stadium.

However.

There’s no true guarantee that this matchup won’t present some issues for Zach Arnett and the Bulldogs.

Southern Miss plays the “underdog” card pretty well, all things considered, and they’re looking to pull off a pretty notable upset. They’ve got a few dynamic athletes on their roster and there are plenty of people who will explain in detail about how it sure isn’t any fun trying to stop Frank Gore, Jr.

Plus, Will Hall has proven to be innovative and a pretty good program builder. He’s got the ability to design dangerous and interesting offenses and that’s fun to watch, as long as it isn’t against your team.

What makes this particular contest potentially dangerous is the fact that it is just days before the Egg Bowl. I don’t like that. But otherwise, this contest should be a win for Mississippi State. It’s got big “Trap Game” potential, but the Bulldogs should be able to win this one by a few scores.
