Mississippi State football Mock Draft 2020: Predicting Bulldogs landing spots
Finding edge pass rushers isn’t quite the premium it once was, but Chauncey Rivers could be a big bargain for a team looking to find some good players for situational play at end. The Packers fit that bill nicely.
After being dismissed at Georgia for multiple marijuana possession arrests, Rivers made the most of his time on Netflix’s Last Chance U and found his way to Starkville to finish his college career. He led the team with eight tackles for loss and five sacks in his senior season, drawing the eyes of a number of NFL scouts.
The biggest hurdle for Rivers is that he lacks the power possessed by many of the defensive ends and outside linebackers who are likely to be drafted ahead of him. Being slightly undersized for an NFL end, he could fit into a hybrid position, something which the Packers have been known to commonly use.
Late 5th or 6th round is probably a good bet for Rivers. I wouldn’t look for him to fall out of the 7th round into the undrafted free agent realm.
