The Mississippi State football team has reportedly gotten Bob Shoop and Brian Baker to sign contract extensions, keeping the duo in Starkville for the foreseeable future.

Charles Huff is officially gone. He’s headed to Alabama to join the Crimson Tide, but he did leave MSU fans with a farewell letter that is actually really nice and worth reading. Despite Huff’s departure, Joe Moorhead and the Mississippi State football team were able to hold onto some incredibly important staff members by signing them to contract extensions.

According to reports from Steve Robertson of 247Sports, for the first time in quite some time, the Mississippi State football team won’t need a new defensive coordinator heading into its next season. Bob Shoop will be back next year!

Oh, and something that is equally important and noteworthy is that Brian Baker, the Bulldogs’ defensive line coach, will also be returning for next season!

The duo of Shoop and Baker helped turn the Bulldogs’ defense into one of the most dominant units in the country. MSU’s defensive line was certainly the headliner on the defensive side of things too.

And so, a year after the Mississippi State football team essentially needed a completely new coaching staff, the Bulldogs will get some consistency this season.

That consistency on defense is especially important as the Bulldogs replace several stars on that side of the ball.

Most notably, the Bulldogs will be replacing Johnathan Abram, Jeffery Simmons, and Montez Sweat. Simmons and Sweat played for Brian Baker on the defensive line and were two of the best pass rushers in the country this season.

They will certainly be missed next season as Baker and Shoop rebuild that defensive front.

Regardless, this is some really good news for the Bulldogs. The Mississippis State needed to keep as many staff members as possible for consistency sake and it seems as if Moorhead has found a way to keep two incredibly crucial assistant coaches.
