Losing Charles Huff to Alabama potentially a disaster for Mississippi State football

If the Mississippi State football team doesn’t get the right replacement for Charles Huff in Starkville, losing Huff to Alabama could harm the Bulldogs’ future.

Joe Moorhead just lost one of his most valuable assistant coaches to the biggest empire in all of college football. Charles Huff, the former running backs’ coach for the Mississippi State football team, is moving about 90 miles east of Starkville to go join Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide.

That’s a huge move for Alabama after Saban lost many of his assistant coaches. It’s also a horrible loss for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Huff is an incredible recruiter and was brought to Starkville alongside Joe Moorhead to help build the Bulldogs into a potential championship contender. While with the Penn State Nittany Lions, Huff recruited several high profile players to join their roster.

In Starkville, Huff was able to get De’Monte Russell, E. Jai Mason (2020), Javorrius Selmon (2020), Kareem Walker, Lee Witherspoon, and Shaquon Anderson-Butts (2020) to all commit to the Mississippi State football team.

And now, Huff will be recruiting against the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a notably bigger football program with more resources. Plus, there is also the fact that Alabama had had actual, on-field success against MSU lately.

Plenty of it, in fact.

For quite some time.

So, there’s plenty in Tuscaloosa for Huff to use in his future recruiting pitches for the Crimson Tide. And that’s just not ideal when the Bulldogs are trying to become a program that can challenge for the SEC West.

Plus, Huff also coached Mississippi State’s running backs. Like Kylin Hill. It’s not really all that ideal to lose someone connected to the most talented player on the Bulldogs’ offense. But, that’s the case here.

At least Hill doesn’t seem to be too upset about losing Huff. That’s somewhat of a positive thing, right?

If the Bulldogs aren’t able to replace Huff with someone who can recruit at a high level and then also connect with the Bulldogs’ running backs, then the loss of Charles Huff will be magnified. Hopefully Moorhead and company make the right sort of move rather quickly.
