Hey, folks. It’s officially gameday for the No. 7 Mississippi State basketball team! Dawn Staley and the No. 15 South Carolina Gamecocks are in Starkville looking to take on the Bulldogs.
The rivalry between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Mississippi State Bulldogs has been a ton of fun to watch develop over the past few seasons. Dawn Staley and Vic Schaefer have built their programs into national powerhouses. Tonight at 6:00, South Carolina is in Starkville to face off against the women’s Mississippi State basketball team.
Given how these two teams are currently at the top of the conference standings, there’s a realistic chance that this game could decide what happens down the stretch in the SEC. Oh, and this will be broadcast for the entire nation to see thanks to ESPN.
Could there be a better setting for a rivalry game?
Vic Schaefer’s Mississippi State basketball team is looking to defend its regular season SEC crown while South Carolina holds last season’s SEC Tournament championship. Two seasons ago, these two teams battled for a national championship with South Carolina coming out on top. And then in 2015-2016, the Gamecocks edged MSU out for the conference title as well.
But the tide seems to be changing. Things appear to be moving more in Mississippi State’s direction at the moment.
The Bulldogs come into this game with a taller lineup. Mississippi State enters into this match up with as talented of a roster as South Carolina. And the Bulldogs made it all the way to the national title game last season, making it the second straight year for MSU to accomplish that.
There’s an argument to be had that Mississippi State might just become the top dog in this conference in women’s basketball. The first part of that argument will be settled tonight. The second part will happen at the end of the season.
If we’re lucky, these two teams might just meet up in the SEC Tournament and then again in the NCAA Tournament.
It’s officially gameday for the Mississippi State basketball team. The Bulldogs are playing in one of the biggest games so far this season. Get ready for it, folks.
