Mississippi State football: Bulldogs would benefit by bringing in Kelly Bryant
By Ethan Lee
His production at Clemson was efficient and effective. If he can replicate that in Moorhead’s offense, the Bulldogs will thrive.
During his time as the starting quarterback of the Clemson Tigers, Kelly Bryant had his share of success. In 2017, as the full time starter, Bryant helped get Clemson back to the College Football Playoffs and completed a high percentage of his passes along the way. In addition to that, Bryant was incredibly productive on the ground.
During the 2017 season, Kelly Bryant completed 65.8 percent of his passes, threw for 2802 yards, and had 13 touchdown passes. He only threw 8 interceptions last season. Now, the low number of touchdown passes is a bit of a concern, but he was efficient and effective. That’s something that can’t exactly be said about Nick Fitzgerald in really any year that he’s played in.
To go along with Bryant’s success through the air, he ran for 665 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. In total, as the starting quarterback of the Clemson Tigers in 2017, Kelly Bryant produced 3467 total yards of offense and 24 touchdowns.
There would certainly be an adjustment from Clemson’s offense to Joe Moorhead’s. There should definitely be questions about how quickly this adjustment could be made.
Can Kelly Bryant make that switch fast enough for it to really matter? Could he do it at a pace that would be good enough to beat out the current quarterbacks on the Mississippi State football team’s roster?
