Mississippi State football vs LSU 2018: Five first half takeaways
By Ethan Lee
Nick Fitzgerald has found a ton of success on the ground.
It’s not a secret that Nick Fitzgerald is a phenomenal runner. His passing skills are limited (also not a secret), but he’s by far one of the best running threats in the entire country. So far, this is the lone bright spot for Mississippi State’s offense.
In the first half alone, Fitzgerald has run for 102 yards on 15 carries. He has shown the ability to get out into the open field and gash the LSU run defense. The Bulldogs have relied almost entirely on running the ball up the middle with Nick Fitzgerald.
Despite those impressive stats, that’s still provided some mixed results.
40 of those 102 yards came on one play as Fitzgerald got loose. When the Mississippi State football team got into the redzone, the LSU Tigers completely stuffed the Bulldogs and forced a field goal.
