More than anyone else within the entirety of the Mississippi State football program, Joe Moorhead must step up for this game against Auburn. For the past two weeks, the Bulldogs have been embarrassed. In the past couple of games, MSU has been out coached.
Moorhead can’t let that be three games in a row.
Earlier this week, he acknowledged that the offense must change and addressed the fact that the running backs weren’t getting the ball anywhere near enough. Then, just a little while later, a prominent member of Moorhead’s coaching staff said that Aeris Williams and Kylin Hill would only get designated rushing plays if it was advantageous.
With how good Williams and Hill are, it’s incredibly advantageous to get them the ball fairly often.
Moorhead knows this. He just needs to actually go through and do something about it. In the grand scheme of things, there will likely be a point where his offense takes off and thrives. It may not actually happen this season and because of that possibility, Moorhead needs to use this team’s strength against Auburn. It’ll at least give the Bulldogs a shot at winning while the new scheme is still in the process of marinating in.
